昭和13年、東京に生まれる。 子供のころから手塚漫画のファンで、「漫画少年」の投稿欄に名を連ねるほどのマンガ狂であった。 17歳で単行本の漫画を描き上げる。 昭和39年、日本大学芸術学部映画学科卒業。 在学中より興味のあったアニメーションの世界を志し、卒業後、(株)テレビ動画に入社。 その後「動研」、「ジャブ」等を主宰し、主にTVアニメの世界で活躍する。 その間の代表作は、「鉄腕アトム」「マリンキッド」「ムーミン」「佐武と市捕物控」 「怪物くん」等がある。 昭和48年、ロボットアニメ全盛だった当時、本格SFアニメを製作するという誘いに応じ、 「宇宙戦艦ヤマト」の製作に参加。演出スタッフとしてSFの醍醐味を画面いっぱいに描き、 熱狂的なSFマニアの喝采を浴びる。 （デラックス版「さらば宇宙戦艦ヤマト 愛の戦士たち」より）
