日本中でうつになり、会社を休職する人間が増加した。
しかし休職しているにもかかわらず、旅行に行ったりイベントに参加したりという人間ばかりだったのである。
「これはうつを作り出す機械を使った犯罪ではないのか？」
そう考えたSRIは動き出す。
果たして、それはかつてうつ病になったことが原因で会社を解雇されてしまった夫を持つ冴子の仕業だった。
冴子はうつ病に偏見を持つ社会に復讐するために、脳内物質の分泌を異常に少なくする大脳変調器で
人工的にうつ病を、しかも新型うつ病を作り出していたのだった！
その現場を押さえようと牧は囮になるが、逆にそれを暴かれ、一時的なうつ病にされてしまう。
ついに復讐が成就したかと思われたとき、冴子は警察に追いつめられる！
逃れられないことを悟り、冴子は自ら最高出力にした大脳変調器で重度のうつになってしまった！
そして彼女はつぶやいた、「打つ出汁脳」。
